Columbus Play N Trade’s Days Are Numbered

December 6, 2009 at 7:58 pm by Tracy Lovett in Uncategorized

According to one of the employees’ Facebook pages, the Columbus Play N Trade is closing soon:

Employee: HEY! Play N Trade is closing and all things are on sale all night tonight. Buy 2 get 2. Taking any offers on store fixtures, TVS, The Hulk(with certificate of authenticity from Marvel), etc etc. Come by and buy things for incredibly cheap!

He goes on to say that the economy is to blame, without giving specifics.

Now would be a good time to snag some stuff on the low–and the Hulk would look good in anyone’s house.

It really is a shame that they’re closing. The store had a different vibe than Gamestop or EB. It was lacking that “corporate” feel, and it was refreshing.

Condolences go out to the employees losing their jobs.

What the heck is up?

July 25, 2009 at 4:03 pm by Ryan in Blog

If you are reading this, you can see that there isn’t a whole lot of content or any recent updates.
Where are the promised forums you might ask? And what about all the other features?

Honestly, it’s up in the air. The last couple months I’ve had very little time to do anything with this site or gaming in general.
As soon is things calm down, and if at the end I still even reside in Columbus, I’ll get it done.

That’s all for now.

Rocket Riot = Chaotic fun

June 18, 2009 at 5:34 pm by Ryan in Blog

rocketriotSorry for the lack of updates folks, it’s boring times here in Columbus.

Fortunately,  Rocket Riot has finally hit XBL to help pass the time. At only $10 the fun for the buck factor is through the roof. Coop and deathmatch are available in split screen, XBL, and system link modes. There are several modes like Rugby Riot (CTF) that are sheer chaos.

My XBL is “SpeedSk8X” if you want to get your DM on.

Tetris

Today marks the 25th Anniversary of Tetris. I wish I still had my old Gameboy. The experience isn’t the same if I play it on anything else.

Congrats to Alexey Pajitnov. He created a truly legendary game.

Mediacom gets serious speed boost

May 12, 2009 at 1:45 pm by Ryan in News

mediacomlogo

According to Mediacom’s latest conference call, they are going to be rolling out Docsis 3.0 to 50% of the market by end of year. What does this mean? A hell of a lot more bandwidth. The conference states they are already testing 100mbit downloads to some employee homes. No doubt this is to keep up with Cablevision who recently released 101mbit service. No news on the Charter front, but they are rumored to already be offering 50mbit service in some areas. Knology is way (way) behind as I believe their fastest residential speed “edge” is currently still under 10mbit.

Great news, but what’s the catch? Well Docsis 3.0 is even less tolerant to problems such as line noise than the current Docis 2.0. Basically, if you live in a Mediacom area where your service is already bad, things could possibly get worse for you.

Some of you already swear off Mediacom, but, just to show you what they are capable of when you are in an area that works, here is my speed test:

Got $25,000? How about the rarest NES cart of all?

May 7, 2009 at 12:51 pm by Ryan in Obscurities

nwc1

Every once in a while a Nintendo World Championship cart will pop up for sale. These carts were given to the contestants of the 1990 NWC. There are about 100 grey carts and 20 something gold carts. Grey carts can pull anywhere from 5-10k, while gold carts can pull 10-15k+.

This particular one is claimed to be cart #1 and at $25k is probably the most expensive NES related item to date.

Crazy madness.

pnt_smash_tournamentPlay N Trade’s tournaments are back. Kicking things off for the summer will be Smash Brothers Brawl. It’s going down Sunday May 10th at 1pm. $15 buy in.

The fine text reads:

3-stock matches, 7 minute timer.

Each set played is best 2 of 3. Loser of the 1st round picks 2nd round level. Single Elimination.

Ransom stage select Among: Battlefield, Final Festination, Smashville, Yoshi’s Island, Halberd, Lylat Cruise, Pokemon Stadium.

Bring your own controller. PnT only has a few extra. Gamecube is preferred.

We’ll be there to record the event in HD shaky cam.

Update: It seems that PnT did not realise, nor did we, that the event is on Mother’s Day. FAIL. The event is still a go, but we may or may not be able to record any or all of it. Sorry. =(
